16 Alabama Bands Travel to SXSW

The Yellowhammer State has a lot to be proud of–most notably, our musicians. There’s something in the water here, frequently credited to muses cooing from the Singing River in Muscle Shoals, the historic town where modern American music began. Now, we all get to take a drink.

Sixteen Alabama bands are travelling to Austin, Texas, in March to play officially and/or unofficially during SXSW Music Festival.  Read below for schedules and recent news from each band/artist.

Birmingham Mountain Radio Presents: Seratones w/ Royal and Toulouse

Birmingham Mountain Radio Presents: Seratones w/ Royal and Toulouse

Get Gone, the potent debut album by the Shreveport, Louisiana natives in Seratones, makes a strong case that this little-known corner of the state is fertile ground, musically speaking. A.J. Haynes’s powerful singing voice, first honed at Brownsville Baptist Church in Columbia, Louisiana at age 6, rings across every track. Davis’s bass and Gabriel’s playing propel every song with the grit, energy, and rawness of punk, the feeling of soul, and occasionally, a little jazz swing. The other Davis offers a clinic in guitar riffs, from swaggering blues to searing interstellar leads.

CukoRakko Music & Arts Festival

CukoRakko Music & Arts Festival

That “magic feeling on the mountain” continues like nowhere else in the Southeast!  Come join us October 7-9, 2016 as we celebrate CukoRakko’s third year of spring and fall festivals.  Held at the beautiful Horse Pens 40 in Steele, Alabama, this friends and family event features 3 days of music and mixed media arts.  Enjoy yoga, rock climbing, glass blowing, blacksmithing, disc golf with a PDGA tourney, camping, hiking, kid’s activities, food and drinks, crafts and more.

CukoRakko is the Creek Indian word for ceremonial ground, stomp ground, big house and dance ground.  This perfectly describes the phenomenal energy that can be felt at this historic outdoor nature park. Horse Pens 40 is a natural wonderland of unique rock formations nestled atop Chandler Mountain in the foothills of the Appalachians. Located on top of the third highest mountain in Alabama, the stone formations here are said to be among the oldest naturally exposed stones in the world, dating from 600 million to 1.3 billion years old.  This sacred ground has a vivid history.  Don’t miss this opportunity to visit this incredible natural amphitheater.

It’s a camping festival only, so bring your stuff. Food and retail vendors will be on site. Not to…
