Unearthing thrift store records by the likes of Link Wray, The Ventures, Dick Dale, Duane Eddy, The Marketts & The Safaris – Man or Astro-Man? began to formulate their own blend of the retro-futuristic inspired by their offbeat musical discoveries. Innovative stage sets and designs by Kraftwerk, The Spotniks, The Residents, Devo, Sun Ra, and The B-52s also had an impact on the emerging ensemble.

Saturn & Satellite to Open Friday

Birmingham’s newest music venue, Saturn, complete with full-service coffee shop and bar, Satellite, opened it’s doors on Friday, May 1. Saturn and Satellite are directly across the street from Avondale Brewing. It is owned by Alabama native and local musician Brian Teasley who has partnered with the world famous Bowery Presents.
The venue aims to become an integral part of the community and the already-thriving Birmingham music scene by featuring both nationally recognized and local acts. The Satellite, located in the corner space next door, has partnered with Portland, Oregon’s Stumptown Coffee Roasters and local bakers, Baking Bandits, to serve fresh-brewed coffee and fresh-baked pastries daily starting at 7 am. Satellite will also serve a variety of local and nationally emerging craft beers and modern spins on classic cocktails. Saturn will also offer a full service bar open to event patrons during live shows.
