The Alabama Symphony Orchestra’s inaugural Sound Edge Festival is slated to be one of today’s most exciting music and art festivals of its time. It will bring together creative talents from both the music and art industries for intense collaborations with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and across Birmingham.
The vision of ASO Music Director, Carlos Izcaray, the new 2017 Sound Edge Festival is a vibrant nine-day experience that is dedicated to breaking down music genres and goes further into the crossover connection of music and art will run from Feb 10-18, 2017.
The festival kicks off Friday, February 10th, with ASO: Amplied. The Alabama Symphony and former Chicago Symphony percussionist, Ted Atkatz, and his new band, NYCO, will perform a cutting edge collaboration at our first ever appearance at Iron City. The after party will be held at Iron City with Avondale beer specials.
NYCO (pronounced like Tyco or Geico!) was formed in Chicago in 2003 by frontman TED ATKATZ and a fellow musician in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Rob Kassinger. The band played locally until Atkatz quit his job as Principal Percussionist of the Symphony to pursue the band full time. NYCO combines blue-eyed soul with jazz elements and quirky lyrics….
The Machine, America’s top live Pink Floyd show, will perform backed by The Alabama Symphony Orchestra at The Alabama Theatre on Saturday, May 7th at 8:00 P.M. Tickets are $29.50-$62.50. This is open to patrons of all ages. For more information call 205-975-2787 or visit the event page.
The orchestra will be led by Christopher Confessore, Resident Conductor and Principal Pops Conductor of The Alabama Symphony Orchestra. The program will include three sets: the first is a diverse mix of Pink Floyd’s extensive repertoire; the second being Wish You Were Here in its entirety; and the third will be an extended encore with just The Machine. Additionally, Lightwave International, the laser company utilized by Roger Waters, will duplicate the classic Pink Floyd concert experience.
Confessore comments, “Last year’s sold out performance by the ASO and The Machine was one of the highlights of the season! The atmospheric instrumentals that are such a huge part of the Pink Floyd sound match perfectly with a symphony orchestra. Add a spectacular laser show and you have a truly unique collaboration, and a concert that folks will NOT want to miss!”
The members of The Machine include: Joe Pascarell (guitar, vocals), Tahrah Cohen…
