“Masks”

The Brook & The Bluff

independent, 2016

Birmingham natives Alec Bolton and Joseph Settine formed The Brook & The Bluff while attending Auburn University in the fall of 2014. The name of the group stems from each member’s home suburb in Birmingham, Mountain Brook and Bluff Park.

Originally an acoustic duo, the pair quickly became a staple at local venues, turning heads with clean vocals and expert guitar work. Still searching for the right musicians to create a full band, the duo released “The Rough Cuts,” a 3-song acoustic project, in the fall of 2015.

In the spring of 2016, John Canada expanded the group’s sound with percussion and an added voice. The trio instantly locked in and started playing together consistently. After resolving to make something of this ensemble, the trio searched for a bassist to fill the bill. Rip Britton completed The Brook & The Bluff in the summer of 2016.

Now fully equipped, The Brook & The Bluff is passionate about sharing their original music with Birmingham and beyond. The band is working on its first full project and excited about taking the next step in their musical progression.

You lit your cigarette;
Oh how quickly we all forget,
That bed you made you must lay in it.
Lost in a fruitless cause,
False hope was all you bought.
And the answers didn’t seem so far.
Where do you go when it gets dark?
Where do you go when the lights turn off?
“I put on this mask for you
I parade and dance for you, too.”
Where do you go when it gets dark?
Where do you go when the lights turn off?
“I put on this mask for you!
I parade and dance for you, too!”
Set to take the sea, run away from everything
It was all you were ready for;
Feel it in your bones, what you were made for
Never asked your soul what it’s waiting for.
“I put on this mask for you
I parade and dance for you, too.”
