Helen of Coi is an experimental electronic indie pop solo project based in Birmingham, Alabama. Alabama native Lindsey Shante is currently at work in the studio and plans to release an EP early 2016. With a few music videos in the works as well as collaborations with Omari Jazz, DJ CoCo, Daniel Farris, and Little Forest, be sure to look out for fresh releases this upcoming year.
Holding a bachelors in classical vocal performance from the University of North Florida, Lindsey blends ethereal vocals with ambient and sometimes quirky synths, warm bass tones, and old school and downtempo kaossilator beats. Michael adds clean, tight live drums and lush guitar texture and melodies. Themes in the music are paranormal activity, coping with darkness, physical affection, alchemy, melancholy fantasies, spells, transmutation, parallel universes, the dirty South, living in the moment, and pleas for humanity to “meet in the middle,” paralleling personal and global awareness. Helen of Coi has been actively performing since February 2015. Other projects Lindsey Shante has assisted are Ritual Union, Personal Boy, Sea Cycles, Grammar Tree, and Future Elevators.
